Zoe and Rob were recently married on a beautiful autumn day in Kent. The venue was Rowhill Grange near Dartford.
This was my first visit to the venue and my first thought…. what a lovely place to get married. The grounds are spacious with plenty of colour, light and shade. From a camera viewpoint, it is perfect and I quickly planned my shots for the day after a quick scout around.
Zoe and Rob were very relaxed which is the best way to get married. I pride myself on keeping a discreet distance from the couple and their guests. Nobody wants to feel they’re on a film set, do they?
The trick to filming people being themselves is to keep a distance and let your knowledge of your camera lenses make it look as if you are just a few feet away. It’s also why I wait until much later in the day to get video messages if the couple want that. People are more relaxed by the evening and a few drinks do tend to help in that regard, too.
I hadn’t met Adam Wilson before. He was the photographer for the day and a great guy he is. It was a pleasure working with him capturing the day as it unfolded.
Zoe and Rob made the day. The guests were friendly, the weather was tropical…what more could you want? They made sure Adam and myself were looked after and supplied a tasty meal for us both and a few non alcoholic drinks for a hot day. That is always appreciated.
