Wedding video has many benefits. Is it worth your time and money? Absolutely!
Here’s why…
Having your wedding day filmed allows you, your friends and family to relive your special day for ever more. There will be moments you missed on the day. You might not have even been aware of them.
A professional wedding videographer knows what to look for on the day and also where the best place to be at any given moment. This comes down to experience. Having filmed many, many weddings, I am always two steps ahead of the action on the day. I will already have chosen my best angles for cinematic shots. The light conditions will be a factor so I won’t shoot into the sun. I don’t allow for surprises on the day, it always pays to have control over the situation and the conditions.
Being professional
Yes, your friends will have a phone but is that what you want on your wedding day? You won’t get decent audio, for sure. Video will be shaky. A professional will edit and colour grade his or her video footage with a knowledge that comes from years of experience. Filming an event is only half the complete package, the real magic happens later in the editing. That’s when I turn a lot of individual video clips into a story that you receive on completion. It’s really about quality and never quantity.
I even shoot guest messages. I do that because I know it adds an emotional layer for my client that always works. These are your friends and families and they’re wishing you lots of happiness for the future.
I also make sure I film the small details. The table decorations, the photos of your nearest who may have passed but are with you on your wedding day. This all adds to the final video.
Never too late to learn something new
I recently filmed a wedding at The Vines in Rochester. There were no formalities apart from the ceremony which made it an unusual day, to say the least. However, I knew this days before and so I completely changed my usual strategy for filming. I approached the day from a different angle and learned something new in the process. It’s never a smart thing to assume I know it all. When I look back at some of the first wedding videos I made many years ago, some make me despair. That’s not a bad thing as it tells me I’ve evolved in a continious manner. It also implies that my standards have been raised along the way. My work has changed so much since then. The day we stop learning means it’s over.
Wedding video has so many benefits and no negatives. I’ve lost count of the many wedding guests who have told me their biggest regret was not having their wedding day filmed. Really, you don’t want to join that group because there’s no going back.
