Shannon and Lewis

Shannon and Lewis were married at Marleybrook House near Canterbury, Kent. A lovely couple whose wedding I had been looking forward to for ages and for several reasons.

This was my second wedding at Marleybrook. It’s a venue I love to work in. It’s not too far away from me so that’s good. There’s ten acres of natural space which is also a big plus. They also have a fairground. I bet you didn’t know that!

There’s dodgem cars, a ferris wheel, spinning octopus and many more. Naturally, that alone provides me with incredible video footage. Fabulous!

Shannon and Lewis were here to celebrate their wedding. Jody Donovan performed the photography duties throughout the day. I’ve worked with her before and she is always a delight to share the day with.

The couple were married inside the outdoor pergola in very windy conditions. I miced Lewis with an internal jacket microphone so no wind sounds would be recorded which worked perfectly.

Weather and light

Weather is always a consideration which is why I arrive two hours early. I can then judge the conditions and use the appropriate recording equipment. If it’s going to rain, the ceremony will be inside so wind won’t be an issue. A pergola on a sunny day will throw shadows everywhere and this is where an experienced videographer will rely on their knowledge of light.

I used to work as a lighting camera operator for a big national television station way back which has stood me well down the years. Lighting is a science that never dates. You either know it or you don’t.

Shannon and Lewis had a brilliant day and I’m so pleased I was there to record it for posterity for them.
