Last month, I took a slight deviation and discussed the perfect honeymoon destination. In that time, I’ve thought of some great places that weren’t included, some remote, others not so remote.
I grew up in Beirut, Lebanon. I’ve been back since and like most cities, it’s bigger than I remember because it is. Lebanon is old, very old but it has food to die for, a typical Mediterranean climate and some of the nicest people you’ll ever meet. There is an old cliche that you can swim in the sea during the morning and ski up in the mountains during the afternoon. It’s true enough.
Would I recommend Lebanon as a honeymoon destination? Yes, absolutely and like they say…you’ll never, never know if you never, never go.
The Riau islands
If I was feeling adventurous and wanting my honeymoon in somewhere a little more remote, I’d go to the Riau islands. These perfect islands lie off the coast of Malaysia in the South China Sea. I have to admit, I haven’t been there but I have flown over them many, many times and apart from the Andaman islands, they are top of my to-go list.
The Andaman islands
And that brings me nicely to the incredible Andaman islands in the Andaman Sea, not too far from the western Thai coast.
Not the easiest destination to get to, the Andaman islands, along with the neighboring Nicobar islands, belong to India.
If you fly from London to Singapore, your flight takes you directly over the Andamans. My dad was an airline pilot and he told me that these islands were the best he’d ever seen…..apart from Palau, but that’s another story.
You might notice that most of these locations have a tendency to be hot, tropical and beachy. That’s just me, everyone has different tastes so wherever you decide to go, make it memorable for all the right reasons and enjoy all of it.
