Trish and Daniel were married at St Peter and Paul church in Boughton, Kent. Arriving early, I made my way up the steep hill to set up the cameras and check the available lighting. Churches can often be quite dark inside but thankfully, this was not the case and with a few tweaks, I was able to achieve the look I was after.
Then the rain came down. The guests began to arrive. The groom, Daniel, arrived a few moments later with his best man and that’s when the weather changed. Out came the sun. Fantastic.
The old church looked great in the sunshine and I quickly went out to get an establishment shot.
Soon after, Trish arrived in a Volkswagen Combi, a trend that’s been popular this year. Harriet Buckingham was our photographer for the day. I hadn’t met her before but she was fabulous throughout and quickly established herself on my go-to list for photographers. I’d like to thank her again for allowing me to use a few of her photos in the video. She is so relaxed and quickly put everyone at ease.
Whitstable Castle
The moment the ceremony ended, the heavens opened up again. A mad dash to the Combi allowed Trish and Daniel to head off to Whitstable Castle, the reception venue.
I’ve filmed a few weddings at the castle and it’s always a pleasure to return there. By mid afternoon, the sky was blue.
I used to live in Perth, Western Australia. Wedding videography usually involved blistering hot days and intense daylight so the English summer is a welcome reprieve for me. The light here is excuisite on a good day and my cameras love it. It allows me so much range in editing and it’s something I appreciate and never take for granted. I do love the long summer hours of daylight we have here.
Trish and Daniel were an absolute pleasure to work with. It’s a sad part of my job that all my clients are one-offs which makes it fantastic when I’m recommended for a friend’s wedding. I then get to see them again as guests along with any new additions to their family.
